Say goodbye to England’s Rose in the new issue of Doctor Who Magazine…
This issue, there’s a special tribute to Rose Marion Tyler, the shop girl who dropped everything to travel through time and space with a Time Lord in his TARDIS.
Also, there’s an interview with Doctor Who’s casting director, Andy Pryor, asking him how he goes about getting the best actors around to appear in BBC One’s award-winning drama series.
“It’s my job to explore all the possibilities for any episode,” explains Andy. “We always start out by making lists of ideas. It’s my job to think as laterally as I can, and try to keep it fresh, and exciting. I discuss those lists with Russell [T Davies, showrunner], Julie [Gardner, executive producer], Phil [Collinson, producer], and the director; everybody throws in their ideas; we go backwards and forwards on the phone or by e-mail, accusing each other of having the most ridiculous casting suggestions, and then phoning each other the next day to say, ‘Actually, that’s quite a good idea after all!’ We’re prepared to try anything. If all of us are excited about an idea, we say, ‘Look, never say never.’ We’ve nothing to lose. Sometimes that pays off, and sometimes it doesn’t. We’ve made some very cheeky offers to people in our time, ranging from big TV names, to relatively big movie stars.”
Meanwhile there’s an in-depth Fact of Fiction article on the 1984 adventure The Awakening; plus a special article which looks at the alien planets the Doctor has saved from destruction over the years, and asks if it was really worth the bother…
Also this issue, the Doctor and Rose continue their latest comic strip adventure, Interstellar Overdrive; more Out Of The Blue Moments from Russell T Davies in Production Notes; the Time Team continue their Doctor Who watch with Kinda and The Visitation; a chance to win all of Series Two on DVD; plus all the latest news and casting exclusives in Gallifrey Guardian…
